Scale of the Future-2100

A cluster of wave-dissipating concrete blocks, arranged like a field of pyramids, extends into the threshold between the windbreak forest and the beach of Yuguang Island. Once engineered to hold the boundary between land and sea in place, these artificial structures now form a peculiar, heterogeneous landscape. Gradually detached from their original function, they have also begun to lose any stable sense of scale.

At this shifting boundary, the artist installs a structure made of black mirrored glass, its surfaces reflecting the landscapes of both land and sea. Constructed at full scale, the polyhedral form is engraved with a timeline and calibrated measurements based on the IPCC’s projections for future global sea-level rise. The inscriptions appear almost like an abstract language across the dark reflective surface.

As we look into the mirror and encounter the surrounding landscape of land and sea, we are simultaneously invited to perceive Yuguang Island—here and now—against the temporal and spatial scale of its possible future.

一叢聚集如金字塔陣列般的消坡塊，蔓延隱沒在漁光島防風林與沙灘交界處，曾經是用來維繫地海界線的人造物件，如今在這個區塊形成了特殊的異質景觀，逐漸失去其功能與自身尺度，藝術家將黑色鏡面玻璃裝置，置於這個交界，分別照映著地與海的 景觀，多面體鏡面裝置以實際比例的高度，在表面刻上了IPCC對於未來全球海明面上升高度預測的時間表和數據刻度，如抽象文字般，當我們在看著黑色鏡面所映照的地海景物時，同時也是在觀照與對應漁光島此時此地，之於未來的時空尺度。
