Without Composing_n°2

The Without Composing series explores the possibility of transferring and relinquishing the artist’s control over the artwork. In Without Composing_n°2, Geiger counter modules detect radioactive particles and cosmic rays in the surrounding environment. The resulting data is processed by custom software using a Markov chain algorithm to rearrange and perform the musical sequence of Bach’s BWV 974. This generates an endlessly evolving composition produced through machine learning. Invisible radioactive particles and cosmic rays thus become unpredictable agents of disruption—or perhaps even co-creators of the work.

「Without Composing」系列作品，試圖將藝術家對於作品的掌控權力，提出轉移和釋出的可能性與實驗，without composing_n°2，透過蓋格計數器（Geiger Counter）模組，將現場環境所偵測到的放射粒子、宇宙射線（Cosmic Ray）的數據，以客製化電腦程式，透過「馬可夫鍊」(Markov chain)演算法，將巴哈的作品《BWV 974》進行樂譜順序的重組和演奏，形成新的由機器學習(machine learning)所產生的無限曲目，因此，無形不可見的放射粒子與宇宙射線，成為了未知、不可預期的擾動因素、亦或是共同創作者？
