In the work, CHANG Yung-Ta uses Max to develop a continuously operating generative sound system. A Geiger–Müller tube detects the natural background radiation within the exhibition space in real time, converting each particle event into data and transmitting it to a computer. The data functions as a set of parameters controlling the structure, frequency, rhythm, and timbre of the sound. As the radiation readings continuously fluctuate, the system generates ever-changing sonic variations, forming an evolving experimental composition that plays indefinitely without repetition.

Although natural background radiation cannot be directly perceived by the human senses, it continuously passes through both space and the body. Through real-time computation, the work translates these invisible and inherently random particle events into audible sound. Each moment of sound is determined by the radiation detected at that precise instant, creating a sonic field that is continuously generated, dispersed, and reconfigured between the precision of the programmed system and the unpredictability of natural phenomena.

在作品中,張永達以 Max 軟體撰寫一套持續運算的聲音生成系統。蓋革-穆勒管即時偵測展覽空間中的天然背景輻射,並將每一次粒子事件轉換為數據,傳送至電腦,作為控制聲音結構、頻率、節奏與音色變化的參數。隨著輻射數值不斷波動,系統持續生成具有差異的聲響,使作品形成一段不斷演化、無限播放且不會重複的實驗聲音。

天然背景輻射無法被人體直接感知,卻持續穿越空間與身體。作品透過即時運算,將這些不可見且具有隨機性的粒子事件轉譯為可被聆聽的聲音。每一刻的聲響皆由當下所偵測到的輻射狀態所決定,在精確的程式結構與不可預測的自然變化之間,形成一個持續生成、消散與重組的聲音場域。

本作品獲臺灣國家文化藝術基金會贊助。
